  •         "You sure gave me an easy one today, Wally," Lucky said calmly. He took a deep breath and let it out. The air was crisp and cold and here he was dressed in a white, latex bodysuit, laying flat across the snow covered ground. Snow was gently falling from the sky, irritating Lucky even more than usual.
"Don't call me Wally, goddammit. The name is Walter. Walter. You got that?" a loud voice shouted, crackling out of the small earpiece that Lucky wore.
"Take a chill pill, Walt. I'm just trying to keep myself awake out here."
"Well, you need to stay focused. You've got a huge commission coming to you for this job."
"Yeah, but Moscow? Why did it have to be Moscow? You know I hate this place."
Walter let out an annoyed groan which forced a small chuckle out of Lucky. He moved one hand and ran it through his long blonde hair. It was almost frozen from the mixture of water and sub-zero temperatures. Then he saw what he needed. His left eye closed almost automatically and he looked down the scope with the right. His prey emerged about a thousand feet in front of him. The target stopped and looked around, smelling the air, as a gentle breeze picked up forcing his fur to flutter a little. Lucky's finger tightened a little on the trigger of the rifle that was so neatly set up on the hill he was perched on. The Russian moved a little bit, forcing himself into the open even more. Lucky took a moment to examine the man. The man crossed his arms as he started to converse to the nice little priest, completely oblivious to Lucky and the .50 caliber rifle that was directed at his skull.
"What about the father? Does he go too?" Lucky asked removing his eye briefly from the scope.
"No," Walter responded. "The client wants at least one witness."
Lucky looked back through the scope and focused his full attention on the fat man in the fur coat. Lucky took a careful aim and closed both eyes.
"He takes the shot," Lucky said, as he squeezed the trigger. A whisper of a gunshot went off into the night as the prey’s skull was turned into a red mist. The man fell to the ground as Lucky opened his eyes. "He shoots. He scores."
"Well, good for you. Now get back here so we can get ourselves paid," Walter said. Lucky rose from the ground and quickly grabbed his sniper rifle.  With one quick motion, he slung it over his shoulder and started his usual sprint from the crime scene. The wind picked up and started blowing forcefully against his face. Tears formed at the edges of his eyes as the wind caused them to burn. Yet he continued to sprint. His footsteps were light and unheard as the snow continued to fall and the wind continued to blow. He finally stopped and ducked down behind a tree. A slick smile crossed his face as he decided to set his plan into motion. The plan he’s had in the back of his mind for the last year. He pressed his back against the trunk of the large tree and let out a loud groan.
            “Oh fuck,” he moaned.
“What’s going on, Lucky?” Walter asked, sounding more angry than worried.
“I’ve been hit,” he lied, “They must have their own sniper. Oh god. Wait. No. Holy shit, please don’t,” Lucky pleaded before yanking out his earpiece and crushing it in his palm.
Lucky rose off of the ground and laughed, dropping the broken piece of machinery to the ground.
“Oh yeah. I quit.” Lucky added. He dropped the rifle and started his solitary walk through the Russian wilderness.  As he walked, he started to think about where he could actually go now that his career was officially over. He had left a trail of blood and bodies behind him wherever he went. So many broken hearts and broken families. That’s when he remembered the one place that he could go. The one place where the agency wouldn’t look for him once they found out that he was not, in fact, dead. The very place his journey of destruction and death had started
He finally reached his ride. A small helicopter sat waiting for him. The pilot saw him emerge from the trees and immediately started the rotors.   Luck climbed inside the aircraft and stripped out of his bodysuit and relaxed in expensive suit he wore underneath.
“Where is your final destination?” the pilot asked, turning his head to look at Lucky.
“The grave,” Lucky said laughing slightly, “but for now, take me home. Take me to Signet City.”
The pilot nodded and the chopper lifted off the ground and Lucky had a strange sensation in his gut. A sickening feeling that he had just started a twisted chain of events. And for once he hoped his ever-faithful gut was wrong.

  • Lucky finished his trek to the internet cafe and walked into the building. His eyes scanned the interior, making sure that no one else was waiting for him. the only people seated inside was a pair of young men sitting at a computer in the corner, giggling over some random internet video.

"Hey, man, welcome to Terry's Internet cafe...it's two dollars for half an hour," a man behind the counter said.

Lucky looked over at him. "Last time I checked...this place was free."

The clerk shrugged. "We stopped doing that a couple years ago, dude. Now we charge."

Lucky leaned over the counter and looked into the man's eyes.  The internet man looked a bit intimidate.d. He took a small step backwards and stared into Lucky's unfaltering gaze.

"Look...I need computer access. Don't want. Need. People's lives are at stake. Even yours," Lucky growled lowly.

"S...Sir," the  now trembling man behind the counter said.

"I don't care if I have to waste you to get a computer. I will. Now, I'm going to get on and you're gonna let me. And if I hear sirens of any sort or even move toward that phone, it'll be the last thing you ever do. Understood?"

The guy nodded and Lucky strolled to a computer and sat  down. Placing himself in full assassin mode, he removed the disk from its case and placed it into the computer. After a moment, it loaded and a screen popped up filled with  about two dozen different folders. for the next couple hours he opened and read through every document that they contained.

Inside the wealth of information he found everything he needed to wage a war on the Sprinters and the agency. It contained personnel files on every Sprinter member that existed and their status within the sordid group. There were maps containing the locations of agency and sprinter safe house and supply warehouses. There were even a couple that Biz had marked as his own personal places, that neither group knew existed.

A small smile crept across his face as he read and looked at everything. There were even some strategies that Mr. Biz had written and planned out for Lucky to use against the Sprinters. Finally he reached the last folder, which contained a single file titled: The Boss

Lucky gulped and moved the cursor over the file. His heart pounded in his chest. Could this file really contain the identity of the boss? Could his primary target's face be lurking just one click away? Anticipation flooded him as his finger hovered over the mouse, prepared to click. Prepared to find out what it held. But before he could, he heard the buildings phone ring behind him.

He turned in his chair and glared at the clerk. The clerk motioned to the phone, his eyes seeking permission to answer, clearly not willing to face the former assassin's wrath. Lucky gave a slight nod and kept his eyes on the guy. The man spoke for only a brief moment before holding the phone away from his ear.

"Is there a Lucky Robinson here?"

Lucky rose quickly and glared at him. He quickly walked to the clerk and snatched the phone from his hand. As he pushed it to his ear, he gestured to the terrified cafe worker to stay where he was.

"Lucky," a manufactured voice said on the other end of the line. A voice that sent a chill upon Lucky's spine and caused anger to flood his mind. "You've been a naughty, naughty boy."

"Oh really? What is it you think I did?"

"You've been looking into things that aren't your concern. You were even consorting with that traitor Mr. Biz. You even dispatched Kristof."

"You know about that already, huh? Why don't you show yourself? I'd gladly let you see him again."

The figure on the other end laughed. "No need. You see I have a credo. You take one of mine. I take one of yours," more disturbed laughter erupted. "But you see, unlike you, i'm going to give you a chance to get them back. Seventy-two hours. Find us."

There was a brief pause from the other end before a loud scream could be heard. Lucky didn't even have to think. The sound was instantly recognizable. It was a scream that he had heard before, echoing through his dreams as he thought of his final days in Signet.

    The Sprinters had Kelly.

  • Lucky's grip tightened on the phone and a loud growl forced its way through gritted teeth. Another scream resonated in the background. A loud, clear, cry for assistance. Lucky turned and glared out the window as The leader moved the phone farther from the scream and laughed again.

"If you harm one hair on her head, I will make you regret it," Lucky snapped.

"Seventy-two hours, Lucky. You have Seventy-two hours to find us and you can have her back alive. But if you want her completely unharmed, you have three. three little hours and I start playing with her," The leader said. He paused for a moment and it was almost like Lucky could hear him starting to smile. "Just like you did with Mike."

Without another word there was a click from the other end. As Lucky stood in disbelief, his hand crushing the phone in an iron grip, he heard a commotion from the back of the shop. The two young men were standing now and dismantling the computer that Lucky had been sitting at. As Lucky studied them, their faces started to become recognizable. He had seen them somewhere before. A dozen thoughts bounced around his skull until the connection was made. There faces were stored on that disk. Sprinter lackeys. A couple individuals who never were agents but still followed orders from those that got away.

Lucky watched in anger as they trashed the computer. After it was properly destroyed, he turned to the clerk and smirked. "Aren't you a little upset at that?" he asked, realizing that the clerk hadn't said a word as they had wrecked a piece of his business.

"Uh...um...look, I was paid to look the other way if something like that happened. Please, man, don't waste me. I've got a fam..." Before he could finish speaking, Lucky reached out and grabbed him by the throat.

"Did you know who I was when I walked in?"

The man shook his head in fear. Lucky let out a growl before throwing the man to the side and starting toward the lackeys.  They stared back at him as he made his slow, steady approach. "You two are gonna send a message back to your boss."

They let out a small laugh and one flashed a cocky smile. "We ain't doing anything for you, motherfucker, " the smiling one said.

"Yeah. Boss would whoop our ass if we did," his partner chuckled.

"He's not the one you should worry about," Lucky said calmly, containing the rage that was building up within. The thugs glanced at each other and another burst of foolish laughter broke out.

"If you say so,  you washed up motherfucker," Smiley said as he looked back at the former killer who was now clenching his fists.

"I do say so. After all, destroying a couple butt-buddies like you won't be a problem."

Smiley's smile vanished and the chuckling wonder fell silent. Smiley charged forward at Lucky but was clearly outmatched. Lucky sidestepped the loser and kicked the back of knee, causing the man down to his knees. Without hesitation, the former assassin moved behind the goon and and snapped his neck. Lucky paused of a moment, holding the body upright for a moment as a faint sound echoed in his skull. He closed his eyes, expecting his inner specter to be waiting but there was nothing, just his inner recesses and the faint sound of laughter.

"Holy shit," a voice said from behind him. Lucky let the corpse fall to the ground as he turned and faced the remaining goon. Without saying a word, Lucky approached the man like a lion approaching prey.

"Now hold up, dude," the guy said backing away. "I'll give the boss whatever message you want."

Lucky shook his head and continued his anger-fueled march. the thug backed up until he hit a wall. Lucky stopped in front of him and gazed at him with hatred in his eyes. He paused for a moment before speaking.

"I am going to ask you one question. Answer it right, you live. Fail and you'll die. Where are you keeping Kelly?"

"I don't know, man. You've seen my file. I'm just the boss's helper. I was just told to wait for a call then destroy the computer and disk."

"Ok then," Lucky said. He nodded for a split second before  kneeing the terrified individual in the gut. As Lucky's prey hunched over in pain., the angered predator threw him to the ground. Flaring his nostrils, Lucky rolled him onto his back and stared down.

    "You said I could live."

"I lied," Lucky responded before lifting his foot and bringing it crashing down on the thugs skull. As soon as it made a brutal contact, he lifted his foot and stomped on the goon's skull again. Without thinking, Lucky started a vicious series of stomps, stopping only when a small crater existed and a pool of blood stained the tile. Silently he started toward the door, giving the clerk a small glare as he headed off into the night, determined to find the Sprinter leader and make him suffer greatly.

  • As Lucky stormed into the night, a million thoughts buzzed around his skull. Kelly was gone and he had no idea where she was being held. Worst of all, if he couldn't figure it out where in the next three hours, they were going to harm her. Rage built up inside him as he started back toward Kelly's place. As he passed where Kristof's body had been he noticed nothing but wet cement.

"Organized fucks, aren't ya?" he murmured.  He spit at the spot where the corpse had once laid and continued on his way. Back at Kelly's house, he started to pace, trying to figure out who the leader was and where they would have taken Kelly. Millions of ideas popped up but none seemed right. The leader had to know him somehow. Had to know about his past with Kelly.

He closed his eyes and ran through the list of people with connections to both him and the agency, who would've known about Kelly. About how much he had cared for her and still did. Only name popped up in his head. Mike. But it couldn't have been him. He was dead. Lucky had made sure of it. After a moment, one more name popped into his head. Walter. He quickly ejected the idea. It was too ridiculous. Walter would die before leaving. Before he could try to think of anything else. That thought replayed itself. He would die before leaving. He played the thought involuntarily in his head. There had been one other person who had known about Kelly's existence. That same person had always told him, "Death before Desertion." Veronica. But it couldn't be. She had been shot. He had seen her die. The Agency had the tapes of her death. He stopped. They also had tapes of his own faked death.

With a heavy sigh, he sat down on the couch. He closed his eyes and searched through his memories. He looked through every mission he had done until he found the final mission he had gone on with Veronica. They had gone on a mission to take out a politician whose opponent preferred an easy victory. They split up in the mansion. Veronica distracted the target as Lucky set up a shot. The target caught on and pulled out a gun. he fired. Veronica fell. Then Lucky made sure the target died. The agency had tapped into the mansions cameras and had seen the whole thing. Lucky had watched the tapes a hundred times. But as he re-watched the scene in his memory. He noticed something odd about it. The gun flashed but there was no bullet. No wound opened up in Veronica. No blood entered the air. She didn't die.

Lucky opened his eyes and grabbed the phone as a plan hatched in his mind. He dialed a number he had hoped he would never have to use. The phone rang once before a computerized voice asked for identification.

"Agent 13. Passcode 1307," Lucky said. Almost instantly the computerized voice was replaced by a deep breathing as if someone was seething on the other end.

"You cocksucker. You have some nerve calling here after that stunt you pulled," his former handler growled.

"I've got a proposition, Walter. I'm going to do a job. Fix a problem for the agency. I want compensation and I want it up front."

"Oh really? Just how much do you want and what do you mean by fix a problem?"

"No money. I want a vehicle and a lot of ammunition. Consider it payment and outfitting me all in one."

"What do you think you're going to do?"

"I'm going to find and kill Veronica."

"You're old partner? Don't you know already? She died. Years ago. You fucking saw it."

"Faked it. Clever camera angles. most likely paid a coroner to write a death certificate and a crematorium to produce some ashes. Not dead. But she soon will be."

"Fine. We'll leave them by the park in a couple days."

Lucky growled. "No. You have five hours." he said before hanging up. As he thought of finally getting payback on Veronica for lying to him and stealing Kelly away from him, he could hear the faint sound of a chuckle in the back of his head.

  • Awesome so far, but I have one little bone to pick with it.

Lucky is a skilled assassin, and so are his employers during the time that Veronica is still alive.  Wouldn't they have noticed that Veronica hadn't actually been shot?  Granted, you explained that she used clever camera angles to fool her employers, but Lucky was actually there; surely he would've noticed?  Even if he didn't notice, wouldn't the 'cleaners' have discovered that she was never shot?

I'm probably overlooking something obvious and important here, but I wanted to be sure.

Can't wait for the next one!

    :pumpkin:

EDIT:  Reread, and sure enough, I'd forgotten that they were separated in the mansion.  My other points still stand, though. >.>

I've hit page three of six of your little beauty here and I can't wait to fully catch up.  A little action mixed with some nice character development so I'm inclined to keep reading.  Nicely done sir!

I'm on page four and predict that the "Leader" is Kelly; or someone Kelly controls.  Now to get back to reading to see if this has been revealed yet.

Figured I'd clean up your thread from my comments.  You've got a great story here with a nice mix of action and character development.  Guess I was dead wrong on the Kelly prediction though; can't get 'em all right.  Now that I'm caught up I anxiously await the next chapter.

  • Lucky rose from the couch and headed out of the house. He turned toward the park and started to walk. As he walked, he continued to replay every mission that he had with Veronica. He went through the final mission and went through the order in reverse. He went over every detail of every mission, paying attention to the way Veronica moved and comparing it to the way that the leader moved, trying desperately to prove his hunches wrong. Yet his memories did nothing except strengthen them. After a couple hours of being lost in his memories, Lucky reached the park.

He gazed around and not seeing any sign of Walter, he sat down on a park bench and closed his eyes. He moved through his memories until he reached the one of his first mission alongside Veronica. He summoned his mental recliner and relaxed in his own skull as the memory started to play.

Lucky and Veronica sat in a convertible as they sat outside the mansion where their target was. Lucky sat in the driver's seat with a folder in his hands, leaning against the steering wheel. He was dressed in a tuxedo, his blonde hair slicked back and a small smirk sitting on his face.

"Mobster's son," he said as he examined over the target's information. "Attending a ball or party of some sort at his father's estate. Must separate then eliminate."

"Any ideas, Luck?" Veronica asked. She was dressed in a moderately revealing, blood red cocktail dress, her blonde hair hanging down to her shoulders in golden waves.

Lucky gave a small nod. "Yeah. Guy's a bit of a player so if a beautiful woman distracts him and offers him a bit of debauchery, then it should be fairly easy for someone to come up from behind and put a blade in him."

"Wow, first mission together and you're already comfortable with using me as bait?"

Lucky looked over at her and flashed a sly smile. "He'll be choking on his blood before anything can happen."

"He better," she said playfully before slipping out of the car. Lucky closed the folder and followed suit. Once he was on his feet, he extracted a folder from his pocket and lit the folder ablaze. Letting the flaming folder drop, he watched as the evidence was quickly erased and converted into ashes.

Together, Veronica and Lucky strolled, arm in arm, into the mafia affair. Thanks to agency connections their names were on the list so it was fairly simple to infiltrate the party. They mingled with the crowd, being careful to stick to their covers as long lost friends of the family. After an hour of mingling and a bit of dancing, the prey appeared. Veronica approached the spoiled mobster, who was dressed in a tux of his own. Lucky watched as she flirted. Within a matter of minutes, he invited her to move upstairs with him so they could be alone. She accepted.

Silently, Lucky followed behind as they moved up the stairs. As he led her to a deserted hallway and into a large bedroom. The victim went to shut the door but before it could close, the assassin barged in. The mafioso turned, his eyes narrowed in anger.

"Hey cocksucker, can't you see that me and the lady are gonna have some alone time? You need to get on your way."

Lucky looked to Veronica, who quickly grabbed the man's arms and held him still. As soon as the brute started to struggle, Lucky let a blade hidden up his sleeve slide out and without hesitation, embedded it into the prey's gut. The man's eyes widened as Lucky let got of the blade and stared in the man's panicked eyes. He opened his mouth to scream but Lucky quickly covered it as he pulled the blade out. In a swift liquid motion, Lucky brought the blade up and embedded it underneath his chin.

Without saying a word, the pair of assassins hid the blade once more and let the body drop before they made their way quickly from the mansion. As they entered the vehicle to leave, Lucky was pulled from the memory by the sound of a revolver's hammer being pulled back. He opened his eyes and found a large man aiming a six-shooter between his eyes. His gaze drifted past the barrel and at the man holding the gun.

As soon as he saw who it was, Lucky smiled. "Hey, Walt, you're looking well."

I think if this were anyone else but Lucky, it would be time for a new set of boxers.  I wondered if the agency would blindly trust Luck or if they'd use this as a chance to take him out.  I'm excited to see how Lucky get's out of this one; another good chapter Mr. Biz.

  • I thought I'd commented on this the other day, obviously comment fail!

Anyway, good little chapter Mr. B, with the sole exception of the repetition of the word 'embedded' at one point.

It's all going to end in tears this one I think.  ;)

  • Another nice installment, though I think the mission scene could have been deepened a bit.  He's having a memory to help us understand his involvement with V but some of the feelings there aren't coming across.  Surely this memory sparks some emotions that have not been expressed.

  • Luck stared up at his former handler, taking in as much as he could of the man without moving his head. He noted that Walter wasn't dressed in his usual sweatshirt and sweat-pant combo. Instead he was clad in a black suit and tie. As he gazed at the scrawny man in the suit, he couldn't help but let out a small chuckle.

"What's so goddamn funny, you pile of shit? Can't you see how close to dying you are?"

Lucky shifted his eyes to the gun for a moment before looking up into the sole green eye of the armed individual before him. "Yeah, I see the six shooter. But I also see you in a suit. Last I knew, only field agents wore suits."

"What can I say? After you called, I got a promotion."

Lucky arched an eyebrow and chuckled again. "They promoted you just so you could come and kill me? Geez, they must really want me gone to send a rookie."

Walter growled and quickly pressed the gun to Lucky's forehead. Lucky flinched a bit as it made contact, though it was more due to the cold steel on his flesh. Lucky gave the gun a small glance before glaring up at Walter. He studied the green eye intently and found a great deal of hatred and anger there and he realized that he should be lucky that looks couldn't kill.

"They sent me because they know I'd have no problem putting a bullet between your eyes. And I ain't no goddamn rookie. I've had my chance at the field but frankly its just too messy. Especially the way you work."

Without saying a word, Lucky rose. Walter kept his gun against Lucky's forehead as he rose and stared into Walter's eye. "If you really wanted to kill me, you would have pulled the trigger."

"I decided to give you a chance to tell me why I shouldn't."

"I'm not saying you shouldn't. I'm saying you should wait. Let me finish off Veronica and wrap up some last minute business with Kelly. Then I'm all yours to deal with."

Walter pressed the gun harder against Lucky's skull.  "So you're saying I should just give you my car and guns and trust that you'll let me kill you when and if you dispose of you're old partner. Just how stupid do you think I am?"

"Pretty damn stupid to get this close to me," Lucky said. Without giving Walter enough time to blink,  Lucky moved and shoved Walter's arm away before dealing him a solid punch to the jaw. Walter stumbled back a step and once his sense came back started to aim the gun again. The former assasin was quicker, though, and quickly moved to Walter's side and delivered another solid hit right to his ribs. As the bald man started to buckle under the force of the hit, Lucky moved behind him and delivered a sharp kick to the back of his knee. Walter dropped to one knee. A demented smile crossed Lucky's  face as he clutched the bald head of his former handler and threw him onto his back with all of his might.

Walter coughed slightly and  started to aim his gun at the former killer who stood above him. As soon as he was aimed, Lucky grabbed the barrel and quickly yanked it from the bald man's grasp. Without hesitation, Lucky moved around and stood over the man who had been the voice in his ear for all of his career. He slowly lowered himself until he was sitting on Walter's chest.

"You may be filled with rage and hatred toward me. You may even have gotten promoted just so you could kill me. But you broke rule number two of the killer's credo. Never hesitate."

With a cold emotionless stare, Lucky held the gun above Walter's face. Walter stared at it and swallowed hard. He let out a couple breaths. A task which was complicated thanks to Lucky's position on his chest. The anger in his eye still remained though it was now clouding with some fear.

"Where's your car, Walter? How'd you get here?"

"Van. Near the park entrance. There's some guns in the back if you insist on being stupid."

"You brought me my car and guns, huh?"

"Don't think anything of it. I just brought some other guns so I could have better options of how to get rid of you. Thought of sniping you first. Looks like I should have stuck with that."

Lucky looked at Walter's eyepatch and chuckled. "A one-eyed sniper. That would be something to see." His gaze became hardened once more as he stood up above the downed man. "Sorry, Walt. Nothing personal. You just work for the wrong guys right now and I'd know you'd get in my way." Lucky closed his eyes and squeezed the trigger. A loud bang  erupted from the revolver and Lucky let out a small sigh. His eyes opened and he looked down at  the bald man with a hole in his forehead.

Without saying a word, Lucky dropped down and started to search Walter's pockets. He found the keys to his van and quickly got up and smirked as he stared at his dead handler.

"Enjoy hell, douchebag," Lucky murmured before dropping the revolver on his chest and walking away.

Nice Chapter Mr. Biz.  A little surprised Lucky offed Walt but it was the smart thing to do.  Guess Lucky's next move is a date with an old flame; that should be an interesting reunion.

  • I wonder if Lucky will feel some remorse now that he's sent his little voice off.  I got a pretty clear image in my mind of the things happening here so I'd say you definately were doing things right with this chapter.  There was a sense of greatly conflicting emotions in this scene.  I suppose it would be hard to have to kill someone you worked with for so long, no matter what the reason.

Heh heh... now we have machine guns!

  • Lucky marched out of the park and scanned all the nearby vehicles. Just a few feet in front of the entrance was the van that Walt had driven in. It was a plain white panel van with a spade painted onto the doors. With a small sigh, Lucky glanced in the direction of Walt's body.

"Driving a company vehicle, eh? That's might sneaky of ya," he said. He  moved close to it and dropped to the ground. His eyes scanned underneath the vehicle, making sure there weren't any explosive surprises waiting for him. Once he was satisfied with its normal undercarriage, he stood up and walked to the back of the van. As he opened the doors, a tarp covered floor greeted him. The tarp was raised a bit and it was clear that the black plastic was covering something. With practiced caution, he tossed pulled the tarp off and revealing a large pile of guns. There were several shotguns as well a selection of rifles and handguns. Sitting atop the heap was an M16 topped with a scope.

Giving a quick look around, Lucky covered the weapons and closed the back doors. Walking around to the front  he popped the hood and gave the engine a quick bomb-check.  Seeing nothing harmful, Lucky cast his eyes once more to the park where his former comrade lay. A silent tear rolled down his cheek before he slammed the hood and climbed into the drivers seat and started up the engine.

Lucky drove for several blocks in complete silence, remembering every mission he had. Thinking back to the many times that he had gone to slaughter some poor soul while Walter's voice boomed from an ear-piece. Every joke at the man's expense, every wisecrack thrown his way passed through the killer's mind as he drove toward the way out of the city. He was going to go back to the hangar to try and figure out how to find Veronica. As he neared the city limits, his eyes moved to the radio. It was turned off but a small symbol on it was lit, signaling that a CD was inserted.

"You left me some driving music, eh?" he said. He pushed the button to turn the radio on then switched over to the CD function. Within a minute, the CD started to play and Walter's voice seeped from the speakers.

"Luck, if you're hearing this then you proved yourself worthy enough to hear what I have to say," the dead man's voice said calmly. "and I, most likely, am dead by whatever way you deemed fit. I did some digging and you were right. Veronica didn't die. Yet strangely, our cleaners went off the grid shortly after reporting it. Probably got to them somehow. Abe didn't investigate, though. I don't know why. Maybe he was in on it. Either way, take the weapons I provided and take that bitch out. Sattelite footage shows a lot of activity going on in a former bunker. An airplane hangar near Signet. My guess is that's where she is. Have fun. And Luck," there was a small pause and Lucky swore he could fell the man smiling at the moment. "It was great being able to handle you once again."

Lucky turned the radio off and sighed as he pulled the van over. He leaned over the steering wheel as tears began to fall. Sorrow filled him up as the full realization hit him that he had shot one of the few friends he had. And after that friend risked a lot to help him out. The former assassin's body shook as he sobbed. His former handler's voice ringing in his ears. As his words repeated in his skull, a light bulb came on. He  sat up and wiped his eyes. The hangar. The place he was going to go to plan was now the place he had to go to get Kelly back. A small smile appear on Lucky's face as he realized how close vengeance was. How everything was coming together before him. And it felt good
