Ok, this is a new story for me. Still in the work-in-progress stages, so updates on this may be slower then some of my others.

However i still need feedback on it, it is going to be different then what i usually write, in later chapters you should see why.
I'll leave it to you know,
Read and reply your thoughts, i'll take all into good measure and try to improve on it.
rofl hope it grips you  rofl

    --x--

She hides behind her long hair, hoping that the world will change the next time she looks and breathes the tainted air she grew up in. She hates it here, she always has, yet she can’t escape. She knows if she does they’ll find her and bring her back to reality. But is it reality? Where she can’t even open her eyes without crying out in pain because she’s so scared to ring and phone for help?.

She walks alone, no ones behind her except her broken conscience and confidence that fell to pieces over 15 years ago. How is she still alive? One person knows. But she doesn’t understand, that person is me.

I'm writing her story, one she can't tell because her memories are so hard to bring up. Maybe someday she'll realise this is the right thing to do.
Maybe this way she can move on and not live in the past.

These are the words she'll never say.

'   Did I have a choice? Were my intentions that bad to come to this? Surely I'd made a mistake somewhere along the line, looming over him now that was all that spread in my mind. The fact that I couldn't escape the here and now even if a train ran into me at full speed.
Yes, the violence is real, but I can't break away from it. It's suffocating, deadly and strange.
And yet, here I am standing where mistakes were right in front of my eyes. Where there was no returning from, and no saviour to rely on.'

Foreward - Singing in the rain

  •    Kara walked through the streets, trying to reach somewhere dry before her shoes started squeaking. She’d already given up trying to keep her feet dry a while ago when she left her house and saw the massive puddle at the end of her driveway. It was raining so hard she had trouble working out where she was going, because of this she managed to step into another puddle by accident and sighed.
“Another one.” She muttered, watching the ripples on the surface as the rain hit. She got bored after a few seconds and kicked the surface of the puddle, listening to the words singing in her ears she found herself smiling at the puddle and walking to the next one a little further along.

When she reached it she stopped a step in front of it, listening to the lyrics in her ears, she laughed and looked up to the sky so suddenly she made the hood of her jumper fall down revealing her long blonde hair that was tied neatly in a ponytail.

“I just want to scream and lose control,
Throw my hands up and let it go,
Forget about everything and runaway yeah,
I just want to fall and lose myself,
Laugh so hard it hurts like hell,
Forget about everything and runaway yeah.”

She threw her hands up and spun around in circles as the words sung the melody into her ears, she felt the headphones fall but didn’t bother putting them back into her ears just yet. Instead she concentrated on feeling the coldness of the rain hit her face and hands as she spun faster and faster in circles. She stopped spinning when she became dizzy and finally stopped, breathing deeply from the sudden outlet of energy.
She could feel her eyelashes stick together with the drops of rain splashing on her face and smiled, Kara loved the loved rain because it hid the tears she had been crying just a few moments before. However it didn’t take the empty feeling she felt everyday, the numbness was spreading now to her heart so quickly she couldn’t understand how.

Seeing her only opportunity to have fun, she looked to the puddle still in front of her and kicked playfully at the surface again. This time she felt the water reach her toes, but she didn’t stop kicking the water until her legs tired and the water sloshed around in her shoes.

Sighing tiredly, she looked at her hands and clenched both of them into fists as well as closing her eyes. Feeling the rain hit her skin she felt alive, nothing else could make her smile or forget her problems as they edged ever closer. It seemed like a lifetime ago since she had enough confidence to speak to anyone, that was mainly only down to two reasons.

The first being that she had got bullied since before she could remember, hearing those torments made her curl up instead of showing who she really was. It was a curse, something that she tried to hide but unsuccessfully. She hoped for someone to change her life, so that she could be the heroine and not the victim.
The second reason was her family life, pretending that Kara didn’t exist they left her to her own devices. That was the main reason why she was so numb, it was the silence and the tension that made staying in the same room as her parents for too long unbearable.

She held her breath as she jumped over the puddle, nearly missing the puddle again as she landed. She only then realised that the rain was stopping and she was now soaking wet,
“Crap,” she muttered looking at herself slowly down to her shoes, “dad’s gunna kill me.”
“Maybe that won’t be such a bad thing,” A girl said in front of her, Kara looked up and bit her lip. This was the girl that was making her life difficult, and she’d bumped into her in a good mood. This outcome wasn’t going to be good, Kara wasn’t allowed to be happy.
“Lainey, she isn’t worth it.” Kara’s ex-best friend Stacy put her hand on Elaine’s shoulder but she shrugged it off and took a step towards Kara,
“She’s mine,” Elaine said. Kara gulped and turned to look for an escape, before she could move even an inch closer Elaine had taken the last few steps towards Kara and was now standing in front of her. “You really think you can get away with what you’ve done?” she snarled, Kara froze and looked at her hands. Not realising she’d need them to keep her balanced she put them in her pocket just as Elaine pushed her over.

Kara fell to the floor and felt the rain from the puddle soak even more into her clothes. As she tried to get up, she was weighted down by the extra weight and by Elaine’s foot now on her hip.
“You know it’s so tempting to kick you right now.” Elaine rolled her eyes but took her foot off Kara, “Ohh, I’m so sorry,” Elaine faked her apology as her foot swung back and kicked Kara in her left leg, “My foot twitched.”
“Lainey, lets go! Its still raining and I’m getting wet!” Stacy moaned, for a few seconds Elaine looked like she was going to kick Kara again but she rolled her eyes and walked away. Stacy looked to Kara for a second, a tiny amount of hope showing in her eyes but Kara looked away and tried to stand on her right leg. Diverting her gaze, she limped past her and down the next street where she took a side alley.
She put her headphones back into her ears where they managed to fall out whilst walking past Stacy and started singing along to the lyrics,

“Close your eyes and please don’t let me go,
    Don’t let me go now,
Close you’re eyes don’t let me let you go,
    Take my hand tonight,
    Let’s not think about tomorrow,
    Take my hand tonight,
We can find someplace to go,
Coz our hearts are locked forever,
And our love will never die,
Take my hand tonight, one last time.”

  • A nice start there Phox.  Just one line...

Try not to use the word 'got', it's not nice.

The first was that she'd been bullied since...

Chapter 1 - Front door moving and a blast from the past

  •    No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get the images out of her head. It was ironic for her, being able to see the scenes she despised, and knowing there was no way to forget them.
Slowly limping, she managed to make it to her house and stared up the driveway. Even thought the rain was now clearing, Kara was still dripping wet and now shivering from the cold. This didn’t stop her from hoping that when she stepped inside her front door things wouldn’t be the same as usual, even with just the tension it was enough to drive her slowly insane.
She took the steps up her driveway painfully. It was more of a mission then usual because the pavement was uneven, and this made it harder for her to walk in a straight line. Quite a number of times, she had to divert her original path before she reached her front door.

She looked up at the door and sighed, looking at the shabby door that stood in front of her. She remembered such love coming into it, now it was the gateway to her nightmares.
“Hey, So this is where you live!” Elaine shouted, Kara quickly spun around and stared at her as she walked beside her garden wall. She'd still have enough time to open her front door if it wasn’t for the fact that she hadn’t actually got the key in the hand to open it. “Kind of a dump isn’t it?” Elaine laughed mechanically, still walking towards Kara.

Kara had to think fast, she could open her front door and be trapped, or not and be beaten up for sure. Either way she was stuck,
“Lainey! I thought we were going to get something to eat!” Stacy said as she ran up to her. Elaine growled and rolled her eyes, giving Kara enough time to take her keys silently out of her pocket. Whilst Elaine was waving her arms around and shouting at Stacy, Kara took her opportunity to turn around, and put the key in the lock.
A few seconds passed before Elaine finally spotted Kara opening her front door,
“You said you’d leave her!” Stacy said confused,
“Maybe I did but I have a different out-take on life.”
       “Clearly!” Stacy exclaimed.
“Are you trying to stand up for her?” Elaine shouted.
Kara spun around and stared at the scene playing around her and froze. Maybe this time the outcome would turn out better then the one that had been playing in her head all this time?
       “I didn’t say I was! I’m just saying-”
“Saying what?” Elaine retorted back, Stacy froze and shivered slightly.
Seeing a fight about to take place, Kara bit her lip and debated what to do, before she could make up her mind someone grabbed her shoulder and she let out a yelp before being dragged inside.
“Finally come home then?” Someone snarled in her ear, Kara’s eyes swung open and she gasped loudly, now the door was shut there was no way of escaping.

“Saying what?” Elaine shouted from beyond the door,
“Saying that right now I don’t need this!” Stacy snapped and walked towards Kara’s front door. The sudden outburst made Elaine freeze with shock long enough for Stacy to inspect the front door and sneak around to the back.
“What are you doing?” Elaine asked urgently as she ran towards Stacy,
“Finding a way in, why else?”
“Why? Kara’s a little ugly freak if you hadn’t realised, she lives with her mum, dad and imaginary brother!” Elaine fumed with rage. Before Stacy could react, she felt the familiar sensation on the side of her cheek and backed away into the wall behind her.
“Alright!” She screamed as tears welled up in to her eyes, “Lets go.”
“Finally! She actually listens to me!” Elaine said as she grabbed Stacy’s left arm and pulled her away from Kara’s home.

Meanwhile, Kara herself was standing in the middle of her sitting room. Her head was hung, either in shame or fear it was hard to tell, towards the floor. Her father , Chester, lectured her once again about behaving as he paced the length and width of the room.
He made his arms move in various ways it made it seem like he was a humming bird wanting to be let free when in reality it was the opposite. Kara knew better then to smile or laugh as her father made the actions her father made, even if there was barely any light in the room to make out expressions on faces.

The room itself was decorated in beige paint and the curtains in a pale grey. However, they were drawn and only let a small amount of light into the room.
The only pieces of furniture were:- A fireplace, that even in Winter wasn’t allowed on,
    -   A Television that only played five stations,
    -   And a two sofa that sat only two people, and that Kara was forbidden to sit on.

To Kara’s relief a few years ago, her father banned her from going into the sitting room for no reason whatsoever.
She liked it better outside for many reasons. The three obvious ones were the walls inside where the paint was peeling and cracks had started to appear. The tension inside the room with her father let alone her mother was enough to drive anyone slightly insane, and lastly, the brown carpet that smelt alcohol, damp and ground in cigarettes.
“So, you think it’s funny running off like that?” Chester asked, “You think it’s funny making me wait for you when I told you to be back hours ago?”
“No,” Kara bit her lip and replied quietly,
“I told you, someone’s coming around today. I needed you to be here!”
“Well, she’s here now.” Kara’s mother said,
“Sarah, I didn’t hear you come in.” Chester said as he stopped pacing,
“Kara, go upstairs.” Her mother said, Kara nodded and left the room quickly, closing the door behind her.
“I was getting through to her!”
“No, you were pacing. And look what happened last time you did.” Sarah said as she opened the curtains, Kara stopped just outside the door and waited. She could hear the curtains being drawn back and the sigh escaping her fathers lips, but no arguments came.
Sighing slightly with relief, she walked upstairs and into her small cramped bedroom. It was still daylight outside, but by now the rain had stopped and the sunlight streamed in through windows. Kara walked over to her chest of drawers and pulled out her notepad and pen, dropping them onto the bed as she kicked her shoes off and jumped onto the bed. She then pulled out her mp3 player and changed the batteries over, feeling the coldness of the batteries on her hand as she changed them over.
After turning it on and putting the headphones back into her ears, she looked around her bedroom for a second. The first thing that she realised was that there were new cracks on her painted light blue walls, all she could do was sigh and look at her furniture that wasn’t so depressing to look at.
Beside her bed was a small desk small enough to write on but large enough to still get in the way when she was getting ready for school in the morning. Next to that lay the small chest of drawers and cupboard but other then that there was no other furniture visible in the room.
Kara picked up a photo on the desk and stared at it, no matter how hard she tried she couldn’t force the tears to stay behind her eyes. It made her weak when she showed her emotions, made her feel that she wasn’t as strong as she thought she was.
“They don’t believe me…they think you’re just a joke…” She said to the photo, “I didn’t imagine you, no matter what they say…” Kara dropped the photo and lay crying on the bed. She didn’t notice the shadow appearing by her bedroom window, or the male flying off with tears in his eyes.

  • I found this one to be...well...
Hm...I can't find the words to describe it...
It's like going to a Linkin Park concert (like I would know), and then trying to describe what you felt to a child.
    ...
If that wasn't thoroughly confusing, then my books may actually make sense.
    ...
    Hm...
    ...
Bah!  I'll read on when more is posted!  Until then, and I quote my Bebo reviews,

    "Keep Writing!" :-)

    Just one thing I spotted:

    Quote
She then pulled out her mp3 player and changed the batteries over, feeling the coldness of the batteries on her hand as she changed them over.

You reapeat 'batteries' and 'changing over' there.

  •   Kara woke up in the clothes she fell asleep in the afternoon the day before. The heat from her body had made them dry whilst she wore them, but she was now shivering because her window was now open.
Frowning, she swung her legs over the side of her bed and sat up, slowly standing as she reached her window.
“Kara,” Her mum knocked on her door. Kara’s expression faded as she looked towards the window. Moments later, the door opened and her mum walked in carrying her school uniform,
“I was wondering where that went,” Kara smiled and walked over, holding her arms out to take the uniform.
“I’d close that window before you leave for school,” Her mum said as she put the uniform into Kara’s hands.
“Yeah, I don’t know why it’s opened, it wasn’t earlier,” Kara smiled thoughtfully,
“Earlier as in when you went to sleep yesterday afternoon and didn’t wake up till this morning?”
“Maybe,” Kara smiled and closed the window with her free arm.
       “Don’t forget to lock up.”
“I won’t mum,” Kara promised, putting the uniform on her bed and looking out the window.
Sarah then walked out, leaving Kara by her window and the silence that usually invaded the room in the mornings.
After a while, Kara spun around from the window and walked to her bedroom door, closing it with a single sigh as she realised her mum had left it open. She then realised that the uniform on her bed only consisted of her shirt, trousers and blazer.
“Great, where’s my tie?” She muttered as she slowly walked over, thinking as she did, about all the places it could be. As she walked over to her bed, she spotted her mp3 player and the headphones lying separated on her duvet. Sighing, she picked up the photo, mp3 player, notepad and pen and put them all on the desk. She then moved the school books, various other pens and CD’s around it at the same time and rolling her eyes when she realised the tie wasn’t on it.
She then searched underneath her bed, sighing with relief when she saw it under there, and reached in to pull it out. When she finally got hold of the tie, she grabbed it and sat up with it on her lap.
“All this trouble just to get ready,” She sighed, “It isn’t even worth it.” She muttered angrily as she roughly pulled her black jumper off her head.
Then she stood up and walked over to her chest of drawers, picking out a plain white t-shirt when she opened the middle drawer. Feeling the coldness hit her body as she took the blue t-shirt she had on and slid it off onto her arms, she quickly grabbed the clean white one she’d chosen and put it on.
“Do you want a cooked breakfast?” Kara’s dad said through her closed door,
“No, I’ll grab some cereal before I go.” Kara replied as she quickly changed in to her school trousers,
“You sure?” Kara sighed and smiled, then decided on walking over to the door and opening it. When she did, she acted bored and leant against the doorframe, folding her arms over her stomach. “It’s no trouble,” Her did said tilting his head slightly,
“I’ve already told you, I’ll grab something before I go,” Kara rolled her eyes and smile, her dad laughed and pulled Kara into a hug.
“You’d better, don’t want my daughter to go hungry now do we?”
“I won’t dad,” Kara smiled weakly and managed to pull away from her fathers grip and shrugged,
“You have really blue eyes,” he said thoughtfully, Kara made a thoughtful expression and shrugged,
“I’d say the same to you but I see red in yours.” Kara sniggered, but laughed when her father tickled her,
       “Cheeky beggar!” her father laughed,
“I’m joking!” She managed to pull away long enough to say,

  •    “You’d better be,”
“Let me get ready, the sooner I get dressed the sooner I can ‘eat' something’”
“So, she’s trying to get rid of me,”
       “Maybe,” Kara laughed,
“You’re just lucky that I’m in a good mood otherwise I wouldn’t let you off so easily,” Kara rolled her eyes,
       “I know,”
“Do I get a goodbye hug?”
“Yeah,” Kara replied jumping into her father’s arms and giving him a hug before walking back into her bedroom, and leant on her doorframe like she had been before.
“Time for us to go Kara,” Her mum shouted up, Her dad smiled at her one last time and waved,
       “Bye,” She said quietly,
“Bye,” He said smiling back at her and turning slowly around, “That reminds me, the guy didn’t come last night, come home early today. We’ll be in,” Kara nodded and watched as her father disappeared out of view, now she was alone again she walked back into her bedroom and put on her school shirt on.

“It’s never this simple,” She muttered as she picked up her school tie again from the floor and slung it carelessly around her neck. After she tied it and put her collar down she sighed and picked out a pair of socks from her chest of drawers and sat down to put them on. “It’s never this simple!” She said throwing one of her shoes she’d grabbed from sitting on the bed against the nearest wall. After a few seconds she sighed and stood up, realising that she’d be late for school if she didn’t hurry up.

When she picked her shoe up from the floor though, she had a flashback of what things used to be like. Tears welled up in her eyes again but instead of letting them fall she brushed them away angrily and pushed her shoe on her foot. Only realising after that it was the wrong shoe on her foot.
Sighing tiredly, she spun around and saw the other lying on it’s side not far from her bed. It seemed in grasping reach but when she tried to grab it she lost her balance sitting up and instead fell down with her right arm on the floor.
When she finally managed to get both her shoes on and stand up, she realised she was now running late for school and only had 15 minutes to get into school to be on time.

She silently cursed herself and rolled her eyes, grabbing her black school bag and cramming in the things she thought she’d need: Pencil case, notepad, school books, sketch pad, lunch box and mp3 player. When she looked around her bedroom one last time to see if there was anything she’d forgotten, her eyes rested on the photo frame that she had been crying over the night before.
“Come back, please come back home…” she whispered, slowly picking up her blazer as she kept the photo in her line of vision. Sighing again, she slung her bag over her shoulder and walked out her bedroom.

“Come back, please come back home…” she whispered, slowly picking up her blazer as she kept the photo in her line of vision. Sighing again, she slung her bag over her shoulder and walked out her bedroom.

When she walked downstairs, she had the feeling of someone watching her even though her house apart from her was practically empty. The only living things in Kara’s house was Matchmaker, her eight month old tabby kitten and the odd spiders that were left to their own devices in just a few of the rooms.
“Matchmaker!” Kara called out, there was no sign of her kitten straight away, so she walked into the sitting room and called “Matchmaker!” out again. This time, she saw the familiar shadow appearing on the floor five feet ahead of her and took another step towards it. As she thought, Matchmaker ran towards her and twirled between her legs when she finally reached her owner.
“There you are,” Kara said as she bent down to pick her up, throwing her bag and blazer onto the nearest sofa. “You want some breakfast before I go?” Matchmaker only purred, but Kara took this as a ‘yes’ so walked to the kitchen with her under her right arm.
When she reached the cupboards in her kitchen, she put Matchmaker down on the floor and took to the cupboards to find cat food. It took her to three cupboards to find some and between then Matchmaker was leaping up in the air, making the toy mouse on the floor squeak when she landed on it. Kara smiled at her for a second before she remembered she was running late and put the food in the empty dish. She then saw something out of the corner of her eye and turned back to her kitten before realising it was only her glossy grey coat that in the light looked almost silver as it shimmered in the different directions.
“You scared me then for a second,” Kara said silently, Matchmaker begun to spin around in circles and Kara smiled before her face fell once again and she quickly put the now full bowl of cat food onto the floor and ran out of the room and into the sitting room. “Bye kitten!” She called as she retrieved her blazer and bag and then left the house with the gust of wind following her.

Outside, she growled at herself, she opened her school bag and carelessly slung her blazer inside. As a consequence her money and keys that were in her blazer pockets fell out onto her front garden and all she could do was sigh and pick it up. If she didn’t have the money, she would have been in trouble and it was the same for the keys. She was almost about to give up picking all her money up from her almost jungle looking front garden, then something happened.
She was crouching on the grass, her right arm touching the floor and the left was wiping away the tears that had managed to start falling from her eyes even though she fought for them not to.
When she thought about the seemingly lost money, her right hand twitched and she felt more of the drew from the blades gently brush against her skin. Thinking it was nothing, she wiped her tears away one more time with her left arm and then looked to the grass and held her breath.

The scattered coins that had fallen were balanced perfectly, hovering a couple of inches above the grass and having the blinding light as they reflected the suns rays into Kara’s eyes. Taking a second for the scene to sink in, she shook her head gently and tried to rid her brain of the image. Nothing could rid herself of it however, and she looked back to the grass where the coins were now moving from side to side. Kara froze and after another second, reached out with her right arm and took the first coin inspecting the cold coin as she held it in her hand before taking the rest by scooping them all up from underneath.
Still with the image in her head, she dropped the coins into her trouser pocket and stood up. She then closed the zip on her bag and slung it once again over her shoulder before walking through the grass and sighing when she realised what the time probably was.
“Hey, you go to The Oakwood don’t you? I recognise the uniform,” Kara spun around and saw a boy around her age walking towards her. He was wearing the same uniform as her, except he already has his blazer on, showing the familiar tree and red cross on the top blazer pocket.
“Yeah, but I’m running late,” Kara replied,
“Good,” the boy smiled, “I’m new there, have no idea where I’m supposed to be going, I could get my mum to drive to save you walking time if you want?”
       “I don’t know,” Kara thought,
“Matt! Get over here now, we need to go!”
       “Yes mum!”
“Your called Matt then?” Kara asked distractedly,
“Yeah, but do I get to learn yours?” Kara smiled briefly then nodded, “Kara,”
“Well nice to meet you Kara, you still deciding on the lift?”
“No, I’ll take it, thanks.” Kara smiled shyly,
“Ok then,” Matt smiled back and walked back to his mum’s car, “Can Kara come too?” He asked, his mum looked to the girl that her son had just been talking to and nodded, unlocking the car as she did.
“How long will it take?” Kara asked as she caught up with Matt,
“I don’t know do I?” He smiled, “It’s got to take less then walking though,” Kara agreed by nodding her head and opened the back passenger door on the car when she finally reached it. Matt was ahead of her and was already sitting in the car clipping his seatbelt into place when she slid in and closed the door.
“What year are you in?” Matt asked Kara,
“My final year,” Kara rolled her eyes and sighed,
“Same here, had to transfer because of some reason…” Matt trailed off then shook his head of the thought as they pulled out of his driveway, “What tutor do you have?” He asked changing the subject slightly,
       “Mr.Cookson what about you?”
“Mrs.Paige, we’re on different floors at school,” Kara replied,
“That’s school for you,” Matt sighed.

They reached the school gates just as the bell were about to ring and Kara rolled her eyes when she realised. When Matt’s mum finally stopped the car she said a quiet,
“Thanks,” before getting out with her bag and standing in yet another puddle when she opened the door and put her foot down, instead of doing anything about it she put the other foot into the puddle and got out. She didn’t see the point of making the situation worse when her morning was already one of the worst she’d come across.
“Care to show me where we’re going?” Matt asked, as he closed the door behind him, Kara nodded and did the same. Letting his mum drive off in the car and leaving them where she’d stopped.
“Follow me,” Kara sighed tiredly as she walked to the pavement and into the school gates. Matt followed her, but stopped occasionally taking in the rather large school as he walked along. Kara didn’t want to push him though, she knew his type and also knew that he would change her opinion of he so quickly he wouldn’t even know it until it was too late.
When she got half way across the playground she stopped and turned back to him, he was looking at one of the older buildings that stretched the length of the playground. Even from here she could spot his brilliant blue eyes and the slightly long black hair, it was shining in the light from the sun and made Kara’s eyes keep jumping to it though she didn’t know why.

“Hey Kara,” Elaine sneered, Kara froze and spun around, trying to keep her expression blank became harder then she imagined and she ended up giving her fear away. “Looks like she’s scared of me,” Elaine laughed, “Maybe she’s finally learned,”
“Should we still go along with the plan?” One of Elaine’s gang offered. Kara turned to the male standing beside Elaine, remembering his name as Gregory, “It’s tutor time, we could get in trouble,” he continued
“Like little Kara cares about that!” Elaine snapped, “I’ve got the perfect place for her today,”
       “Where?” Stacy asked,
“Somewhere where no one will think to look,”
       “What’s going on?” Matt asked,
“Who’s your little friend?” Elaine raised her eyebrow and took a step towards Kara, “You know the rules by now surely?”
       “What rules?” Matt asked,
“Nothing for you to be concerned about,” Elaine smirked, “It’s time for Kara to go to tutor,” Elaine said grabbing hold of Kara’s left arm,
“Let me go!” Kara said urgently,
“You need to go to tutor!” Elaine said yanking Kara towards her so suddenly she managed to make Kara fall to the floor face down onto the pavement. Kara yelped but stood up suddenly, she could feel blood running down the side of her face but she didn’t wipe it away.
“Leave her alone!” Matt said standing in front of her,
“Get out of the way,” Elaine warned,
“No!” Matt snapped, “She’s injured, just leave her!”
“This guys got to be kidding!” Gregory growled, “Should we teach him a lesson or let it pass?”
“Depends if he wants to apologise or not,” Elaine titled her head,
“I’m not apologising to anyone.” Matt said,
“Then you’ll get punished. We rule this school, the sooner you learn that the better.” Elaine grabbed Matt’s left arm and pulled him forwards, Graham grabbed Kara’s left arm and together, Matt and Kara, got pulled into the school and into the disused classrooms that were later that day going to be pulled down.
“Lucky they haven’t put the tapes on saying ‘no entry’ yet huh?” Elaine smirked. Matt yanked his arm back suddenly, making Elaine to nearly fall over before he took his only chance and ran. “What are you waiting for?” She snapped, “Go after him!” Two of her gang, Nick and Elaine’s boyfriend William ran after Matt,
“NO!” Kara shouted, “Leave him alone!”
“Who said you could speak?” Elaine asked turning back to her. All Kara could do was swallow hard and brace herself for what was about to happen. However, there were no hits or punches, instead just being pulled into an abandoned classroom and pushed into cupboard so small she had to duck her head to fit inside.
“LET ME OUT!” Kara screamed as Elaine shut the door in her face and stuck a chair to hold it in place. “LET ME OUT!” Kara screamed again, this time she had to stop, her throat was sore. She then collapsed onto the floor, unable to do anything else apart from cry and hope this punishment was going to cease and Elaine or Matt would open the door any minute with some tissue or something to stop the bleeding in her head.

  •    After the shock wore off, Kara’s eyes got adjusted to the lack of light in the cupboard and she realised she had to get out. Surrounding her was nothing but an empty space, but she could touch from wall to wall by reaching out with her hands.
Even though she didn’t mind small spaces, she knew this old classroom was one of the first to be demolished. If she wasn’t careful, today could be her last. She had to think fast, what if she could move the chair holding her inside? Could she get out?

Trying to ignore her bleeding nose, which was dripping over her school uniform, she focused on the chair and imagined it moving to one side. It took so much strength out of her than it did before, but it was only after her head started to ache that she realised why.
In the darkness, she took off her bag and school shirt, placing it on her nose in a weak attempt to stop the bleeding. It was no use, she found it hard to keep it there because it stung when she pressed too hard. In a last ditch attempt to clean her face, she splashed some of the water from the bottle of water from in her bag onto her face then covered it once again with her shirt.
She still had her tie on, it was hanging loosely around her shoulders and already slightly darker where the blood had managed to hit the smooth fabric. This time, she braced herself, feeling cold water and her warm blood trickle onto her shirt as she counted the minutes.

The minutes turned into hours, but no one had come and opened the door. She guessed it was around lunchtime by now, but it was too dark to see what she was doing clearly so decided against the packed lunch.
There was no mistaking the lunch bell, even through all the walls she could hear its screeching sound echo through and sighed. No one had missed her or asked where she was? Not that anyone would tell the teachers where she was, she knew that when they first closed the door in her face.
She’d been leaning against the wall for what seemed like days, and it was starting to get stiff from not moving. The feeling of coldness in the wall creeping through her shirt was long since gone, instead she focused on her breathing and continuing to put pressure on her nose.
“Kara!” Someone shouted through the door,
“Matt?” Kara stood up and hit her head on the shelf above her,
       “Where are you?”
“In the cupboard!” Kara shouted back, rubbing her head as she knelt down again. Seconds later she heard the chair being moved aside and closed her eyes just as the light streamed through the small cupboard making it hard to see.
“We have to go! They’re pulling down this building next!” Matt shouted as the bulldozer came closer towards them, Kara grabbed her things and ran outside with Matt following her.

Even though they managed to make it outside, Kara knew it wasn’t over.

  • Ah, the old 'locked in a cupboard' routing.  if I had a farthing for every time I'd been locked in a cupboard, I'd have... er.  No farthings.

Anyway, I'm still reading Pho.  Keep em coming.
