Ok, this is a new story for me. Still in the work-in-progress stages, so updates on this may be slower then some of my others.

However i still need feedback on it, it is going to be different then what i usually write, in later chapters you should see why.
I'll leave it to you know,
Read and reply your thoughts, i'll take all into good measure and try to improve on it.
rofl hope it grips you  rofl

    --x--

She hides behind her long hair, hoping that the world will change the next time she looks and breathes the tainted air she grew up in. She hates it here, she always has, yet she can’t escape. She knows if she does they’ll find her and bring her back to reality. But is it reality? Where she can’t even open her eyes without crying out in pain because she’s so scared to ring and phone for help?.

She walks alone, no ones behind her except her broken conscience and confidence that fell to pieces over 15 years ago. How is she still alive? One person knows. But she doesn’t understand, that person is me.

I'm writing her story, one she can't tell because her memories are so hard to bring up. Maybe someday she'll realise this is the right thing to do.
Maybe this way she can move on and not live in the past.

These are the words she'll never say.

'   Did I have a choice? Were my intentions that bad to come to this? Surely I'd made a mistake somewhere along the line, looming over him now that was all that spread in my mind. The fact that I couldn't escape the here and now even if a train ran into me at full speed.
Yes, the violence is real, but I can't break away from it. It's suffocating, deadly and strange.
And yet, here I am standing where mistakes were right in front of my eyes. Where there was no returning from, and no saviour to rely on.'

  • Why are they in school on a day when they're knocking some of it down? Isn't that a health and safety hazzard? What if someone were to accidentally get locked in a cupboard? But then again what are the chances of anything like that happ-.... oh

  •    After the shock wore off, Kara’s eyes got adjusted to the lack of light in the cupboard and she realised she had to get out. Surrounding her was nothing but an empty space, but she could touch from wall to wall by reaching out with her hands.
Even though she didn’t mind small spaces, she knew this old classroom was one of the first to be demolished. If she wasn’t careful, today could be her last. She had to think fast, what if she could move the chair holding her inside? Could she get out?

Trying to ignore her bleeding nose, which was dripping over her school uniform, she focused on the chair and imagined it moving to one side. It took so much strength out of her than it did before, but it was only after her head started to ache that she realised why.
In the darkness, she took off her bag and school shirt, placing it on her nose in a weak attempt to stop the bleeding. It was no use, she found it hard to keep it there because it stung when she pressed too hard. In a last ditch attempt to clean her face, she splashed some of the water from the bottle of water from in her bag onto her face then covered it once again with her shirt.
She still had her tie on, it was hanging loosely around her shoulders and already slightly darker where the blood had managed to hit the smooth fabric. This time, she braced herself, feeling cold water and her warm blood trickle onto her shirt as she counted the minutes.

The minutes turned into hours, but no one had come and opened the door. She guessed it was around lunchtime by now, but it was too dark to see what she was doing clearly so decided against the packed lunch.
There was no mistaking the lunch bell, even through all the walls she could hear its screeching sound echo through and sighed. No one had missed her or asked where she was? Not that anyone would tell the teachers where she was, she knew that when they first closed the door in her face.
She’d been leaning against the wall for what seemed like days, and it was starting to get stiff from not moving. The feeling of coldness in the wall creeping through her shirt was long since gone, instead she focused on her breathing and continuing to put pressure on her nose.
“Kara!” Someone shouted through the door,
“Matt?” Kara stood up and hit her head on the shelf above her,
       “Where are you?”
“In the cupboard!” Kara shouted back, rubbing her head as she knelt down again. Seconds later she heard the chair being moved aside and closed her eyes just as the light streamed through the small cupboard making it hard to see.
“We have to go! They’re pulling down this building next!” Matt shouted as the bulldozer came closer towards them, Kara grabbed her things and ran outside with Matt following her.

Even though they managed to make it outside, Kara knew it wasn’t over. The problem was, anticipating the next move to make it away from the destruction area safely.
Kara and Matt both felt the ground underneath them tremble and they slowly looked at each other,
“We-” Matt began, but Kara cut him off by grabbing his arm and running as fast as she could straight ahead. Seconds later, the bulldozer hit the classroom they had just been standing in, making Kara stop for a second as she spun around.
Matt stopped just behind her, he was panting slightly but managed to gain his breath back quickly,
“How can we get out of here?” He asked, Kara thought quickly for a second before something inside her brain clicked into place.
“I know, come on.” She let go of Matt’s arm but walked fast, dodging debris from the previous building and construction workers that were walking around. She knew they couldn’t be seen, they would ask too many questions and Kara and Matt would get into even more trouble because they were out of bounds.
“You realise how much trouble we’re in don’t you?” Matt whispered as they ducked once more behind piles of bricks,
“I know,” She whispered back, “but right now I just want to get away from here alive and not seen.”
“That could be hard considering it’s lunch time you know,” Matt pointed out, Kara held her breath, she hadn’t thought of that.
“Is there anyway we could sneak back to yours?” Kara thought out loud,
“Maybe, dad should be in,” Matt sighed,
“The teachers will only ask questions to where you went, you’re covered in dust and dirt.”
“Crap!” Matt inspected himself and sighed, “Fine, I’ll phone my dad.” Matt said as he got out his mobile from his bag and dialled the 11 digits. Kara turned around and crept around the corners of the pile they were standing behind, hoping that no one was coming closer to them.
When she saw all the builders were occupied knocking down the building, she went back to Matt who was hanging up,
“We need to get to the front of the school,” He said quietly, Kara nodded and spotted a gate near them. Flashbacks came into her mind and she remembered in less then a second that that gate was one of the ways out of the school.
The only downside was the gate was just before it was open space. Once Kara and Matt had decided to run to it, there would be no turning back. Matt spotted what Kara was looking at and crouched down beside her,
“Is that the only way?” He asked,
“The only way I can think of,” Kara replied, Matt nodded and checked one last time to see if anyone was watching,
“Hope you’re a fast runner, you’ll have to catch up with me,” Matt said as he turned back to her, Kara smiled inwardly and let Matt take a head start. Five seconds later she caught up easily and overtook him, she could feel the wind hit her face, making her eyes water slightly from the coldness of it. She also felt the raw cut on her face stinging slightly, it was numb by now only allowing her to be in a slight discomfort as she ran.
Kara ran faster and faster until she finally stopped just beside the gate, she rested on the curved iron behind her with her arms crossed and waited. Seconds later, Matt caught up and he too stood beside the gate in the shadows of the oak tree standing over them.
“How-did-you-get” Matt began, his breathing slightly irregular from running, he stopped talking and caught his breath back again, “So fast!”
“Easy,” Kara smiled, “I run home everyday,”
       “Why?”
“Because they chase me,” Kara replied,
“Ohh,” Matt bit his lip and put his arm around her, not knowing what to say,
“It’s ok, lets just get away from here,” Kara said, not wanting to shrug his arm off her shoulder,
“Why do you put up with it?” Matt asked, Kara turned around and diverted his gaze,
       “I don’t have a choice.” She said,
“Yes you do!” Kara turned back to him then, anger flowing through her blue eyes,
“No! no I don’t have a choice!” Kara snapped, “You think it’s easy? I go home pretending everything’s fine when it isn’t. My parents don’t know the extent of what’s going on because they’re more transfixed in there own lives to care!”
       “Kara-” Matt began,
“No! can we just go! I don’t want to stay here any longer, I just want to get away from here!” Matt took a step towards her then nodded.
Kara relaxed slightly but didn’t take her eyes off him, instead it was Matt who broke the eye contact as he walked around her and opened the gate,
“Looks like we’re in luck,” he said, as he pulled the gate open further, Kara sighed and walked through the overgrown path.
“You realise that no matter what we do, they’ll be asking questions tomorrow,” Matt said, Kara could hear his feet treading on the leaves and twigs behind her and sighed, feeling her hair as she walked she re-did the ponytail and tried to smarten it up again. It was messy at the back from where she had been sleeping on it and lose strands were blocking her vision as they blew in her eyes.

When they reached the clearing at the back of the school, Matt sighed,
       “He isn’t here yet,”
“Were you really expecting him to be?” Kara asked,
“Fine, so I wasn’t. You really think I’m saying it because I want to go home just yet?”
       “What do you mean?”
“Have you looked at your face recently?” Kara looked away and rolled her eyes, she knew this was coming,
“How do you expect me to if I don’t have a mirror?”
“Then let me help, please?” Matt took a step towards her and Kara sat down on the floor, hidden from the other houses by another Oak tree.
“You really carry a first aid kit in your school bag?” She looked up and asked, Matt smiled and sat next to her,
“No, but I do carry the basics: tissue, water and plasters. Think they’d help?” Kara nodded and Matt crawled small distance and sat in front of her.
“Is my face really that much of a mess?” Kara asked quietly,
“You want me to be honest?” Matt asked cautiously, Kara nodded, “Then yeah, it is…” Matt took the tissue and the water out of his bag and looked back to Kara, “It’s ok, it wont be for long,” He said kneeling closer to her when he saw her head was hung, “I know I’m no good with making people feel better, but I can promise you something,”
“Like what?” Kara looked up into his eyes and raised her eyebrow,
“That they wont hurt you anymore,”
       “How can you promise that?”
“Because you just have to trust me ok? It’s all you need to do, trust me.”
“You haven’t seen all that they can do, they’ve done worse then pushing someone over, I wont let you get involved into this. I can’t!”
“It’s too late, I already am involved if you hadn’t already noticed.” Kara sighed in defeat, but said no more. She had the feeling that she wouldn’t be able to win the argument, so just watched Matt as he dampened some of the tissue and set to work on her face.

Even though it stung, Kara held back the pain by bracing herself and clenching her fists into little balls. However, when Matt started cleaning the top of her nose, she winced and bit her lip. She knew it would hurt, but she hadn’t measured how much.
“You ok?” Matt asked, pausing over the bridge of her nose,
“Why did you stop? Just get this over with please!” Kara replied quickly, Matt sighed and nodded, biting his lip in concentration he continued.
After, Kara felt him working into the grazed part, and she dug her nails in deeper to stop herself screaming out.
A few times, she was tempted to wipe the small droplets of cold water running down her face away, but only more came when she brought her hand up. Instead, she just waited patiently for Matt to finish so that she could relax slightly.

When Matt seemed satisfied, he grabbed a large plaster out of his school bag and inspected the sizes of Kara’s cut nose and the size of the dressing.
“This should be big enough, it’s the only big one I have now. The others I had to use on me when I fell off my bike.” Kara smiled slightly and Matt nodded, “This should feel better,” he said as he opened the plaster and carefully pulled it out, “It always does with me,” he smiled and pulled the two tabs apart slightly, careful not to touch the dressing on the inside.
Kara kept her eyes fixed on it, watching Matt’s hands as they edged closer towards her. When Matt placed the plaster on her nose, she realised she looked cross-eyed and looked at the shadows made by the tree instead. Matt smiled at her as he smoothed the dressing down slightly and stood up,
“Feel better?” he asked, Kara moved onto her knee’s and nodded,
“Thanks,” she said, Matt shrugged and picked up Kara’s bag, blazer and bloodied school shirt,
“May want to wash this,” He said biting his lip slightly, Kara sighed,
       “I know,”
“Matt? Matt where are you?” Someone called out,
“Finally,” Matt rolled his eyes and walked to the road, seconds later he came back with someone following him, “Dad this is Kara, Kara this is my dad,”
“So this is the girl that was in the wars?”
“Yeah, can we go home now?”
“Yes, but you have to know that the school phoned. I’m guessing they probably rung your house too,” Matt’s dad said to Kara,
“I wouldn’t be surprised,” Kara muttered,
“I told them that you were around my house because you were walking up to school and Matt found you, he brought you over. Matt’s coming home now because there’s a ‘family emergency’”
“Which, in real life is actually not real but it’s harder explaining this. Don’t you think?” Matt asked Kara,
“I don’t know,” Kara slowly stood up and held her hand out to Matt, he looked confused until she pointed to her shirt.
“Ohh, I forgot I was holding that,” He blushed and handed it over to her, Kara smiled and took her shirt, putting it in her bag along with her blazer.
“You ready to go?” Matt asked Kara,
“I have been for ages,” Kara replied,
“Then follow dad and he’ll lead you to the car,” Matt smiled and put the water back in his bag and slung it over his shoulder. Kara nodded and walked from under the tree, slowly walking behind Matt and his dad as they talked about what had happened since they had last spoken.
“You ok?” Matt stopped and asked her, Kara froze and looked around,
“Yeah,” she said quietly, “Why wouldn’t I be?”
“I was just making sure, after all you went through…”
“I’ve been through worse then that trust me,” Kara sighed but started walking again, Matt sighed and walked beside her, together feeling the tension as they edged closer to the car that would drive them away from the hectic morning that she had begun.

When they reached the car, Kara opened the back passenger door and clambered in, watching out for puddles along the way. Once inside, the tension seemed to cease as music was put on. A band Kara hadn’t heard before but from the introduction to the song, she seemed to like the sound of.
“Who is this?” Kara asked Matt as he climbed into the front,
“You don’t know Linkin Park?” He spun around just as he grabbed his seatbelt,
“Err, no?” Kara replied wondering what else to say,
“Wow, we have to change that,” Matt smiled and turned back around to the stereo, taking the CD out and putting another one in, “It’s time you heard There best album,” Matt smirked as he turned around again, this time buckled into the seat.
“Are you going to close the door?” His dad asked, the engine was already running but the door on Matt’s side was still wide open. Matt froze and quickly spun around again,
“Sorry,” He said, quickly closing the door then changing the track number to number 13.
“Numb?” His dad asked, Matt smiled and nodded,
“Wow, you know it?” He laughed, his dad, Jay shrugged and smiled, turning the steering wheel and humming along to the song.

Kara felt her heart pouring out into the song, the words being sung seemed like they were telling her story, her life. Was she really so misunderstood? Alone? The band said she wasn’t, yet she knew they couldn’t be real.
Matt turned around just after the song ended, turning it to track nine. He was watching Kara’s slowly forming smile, when Kara noticed she smiled back but looked away a second later. She found it hard to smile for people she didn’t know even if they made it seem so easy.

Quarter of an hour later, they pulled into Matt’s driveway and the CD was taken out,
“Want to borrow it?” Matt asked, Kara looked stunned for a few seconds before slowly nodding, Matt smiled and passed the CD to her which she took slowly. She couldn’t believe that someone was lending her something, no one had ever leant her anything before.
“Thanks,” She said holding the CD in her hand,
“No problem, you can copy it to your computer if you have one,” Matt smiled and opened the car door, sighing when he saw his mum’s car in the driveway,
“You didn’t say she was home,” he turned back to his dad,
“She wasn’t here when I left,” Jay said, staring at his wife’s car parked on the road behind them.
“You have to go home I’m sorry,” Matt sighed, “but mum doesn’t know about what happened at school,”
“It’s ok,” Kara said painfully, opening the car door with her free hand. After climbing out, she closed the door and smiled at Matt briefly who had got out the same time as her.
“I’ll see you tomorrow wont I?” Matt asked,
“Yeah, but I should be out earlier then today,” she shrugged and smiled again, “Bye,”
“Bye,” Matt waved to her and watched Kara go down his driveway. When she reached her front door he finally closed his door and walked inside his house.

Kara leant against her shut door, her nose was stinging slightly but she didn’t mind it so much. She heard the familiar ‘mew’ from her kitten and smiled, right on cue she ran towards Kara from behind an opened door. Kara smiled and walked past Matchmaker up the stairs and into her bedroom. She still held the CD in her hand, and once inside her bedroom she found the CD player and turned it on. Relaxing slightly she crawled under her bed and lay on the floor, above her was her secret and only sanctuary.
The day her brother had mysteriously disappeared without a trace when she was one, Kara had collected newspaper articles her parents had collected, photos of him and drawings he’d drawn throughout his life and stuck them in the only place she thought they could be safe. Under her bed, she could hide and know one straight away would know she was inside. It was her only way of escaping, and she was small enough to move her arms slightly.
She looked to the first article that she’d collected,
‘Four-year-old Kieran Heal has gone missing, the police and family are urging people to come forwards with information about Kieran’s whereabouts. He was last seen playing with his friends in the playground, and hasn’t been seen since. If anyone has information, call this number.’
The article was dated 14 years ago, but it was still in good condition. However, the number posted on the original article was now not in use, Kara tried to use it once when she was seven and found it was now a building company.

Feeling a little stronger then she had earlier in the cupboard, she closed her eyes and pictured the pen in her bag coming towards her. When she opened her eyes slowly she saw the pen hovering above her face, Kara froze again but then had an idea. She closed her eyes again and pictured the pen etching ‘Kieran’ into the planks of wood above her,
“Kara, are you in?” Her dad shouted up, Kara jumped and she felt the pen drop onto her hand.
“Yeah,” Kara called back, she sighed after, seeing only ‘Kie’ written.
She knew her parents would ask about her nose, her sanctuary would have to wait.

Kara sighed again and slid sideways out from under her bed, when she was fully out and had enough room she grabbed the pen she had manipulated. Something was happening to her, the question was, what?
“Kara, come down for a second I want you to meet someone.”
“Ah, yes. The person you think can ‘help me’,” Kara sniggered but still walked downstairs into the sitting room, her dad stood up when she entered. Staring at her nose like she had something more then a plaster covering it,
       “What happe-” her dad began,
“Ah, Kara. I’m Mr.Blank, I’d like to have a quiet word with you.” Kara spun around and saw someone standing behind the sitting room door, Kara raised her eyebrow at him and looked back to her dad.
       “Wow, de-ja-vu.” She muttered,
“What did you say?” Chester asked softly,
“Nothing, I’ve just seen him before somewhere,” Kara replied turning back to the stranger.
Mr.Blank smiled and held out his hand, Kara shook it but at the same time she tried to place where she had seen him last. He wore a shirt, the top button was undone so even with the blazer and trousers he seemed more casual then businesslike. His features told her he was at least her fathers age, 45, with a friendly nature. However, with his dark blonde hair he looked younger somehow, giving him the appearance of someone much younger.
Kara inspected the scar above one of his eyes, it was the thing that drew her to her past memories. Where had she seen it before?

  • NUMB!!

Numb has got to be one of my favorite Linkin Park songs, if not the favorite.  "What I've Done" is another good one, though it isn't on the CD that was made for me.

Have you heard Numb?  *hits forehead*  Duh!  *to self*  Why would she write about it if she hadn't heard it?

I've become so numb, I can't feel you there!
Become so tired so much more aware!

    WHOOPS!

Sorry, didn't notice that I was singing... :woOOo:

I've become so numb, I can't feel you there!
Become so tired so much more aware!

    I'm becoming this,
    All i want to do,
    is be more like me,
    And be less like you!

of course i heard it, it was the song that got me into Linkin Park!

Meteora is my favourite album...

Yes, the violence is real, but I can't break away from it. It's suffocating, deadly and strange.
And yet, here I am standing where mistakes were right in front of my eyes. Where there was no returning from, and no saviour to rely on.'

  • The first song I heard from Linkin Park was "Somewhere I Belong."  Man, the chords in the beginning of the song just give me goosebumps!

And after that, I started to search the band on Youtube and found their other songs.  Somewhere I Belong may have caught my attention, but Numb and What I've Done reeled me in for good.  Leave Out All The Rest isn't that bad either, and Faint is okay.

  •    In a matter of minutes, Kara immediately felt out of place, something was telling her to keep her mouth shut as her father talked. There was something about Mr.Blank that she didn’t like, even though he had a friendly face,
“Yes, Kara’s very intelligent, top in English and Science did you know?” Chester bragged, Mr.Blank smiled and nodded to Kara who felt more out of place then before,
“You’re embarrassing her,” Mr.Blank said as he turned back to Kara’s father,
“So I am, He laughed, “Well, I’ll leave you to talk for a bit, I can hear Matchmaker crying out for something to eat.” Chester then stod up and left the room, turning the room from reasonably comfortable to tension in just a few seconds. Kara waited nervously, hoping for some kind of distraction to ease the tension back to almost bareable.
“So, Kara, do you know why I’m here?” Mr.Blank asked, Kara nodded slightly, diverting her hands gaze to her hands as she twiddled her thumbs back and forth.
“You’re here to ask me questions on my family,” She said not looking from her hands,
“And to see if you’re ok,”
“I’m fine!” Kara snapped, “I just got in a fight, there’s nothing wrong with me!”
“You’re getting into a lot of fights these days,”
       “You think it’s my fault?”
       “I didn’t say that,” Mr.Blank said calmly,
“You were thinking it,” Kara muttered,
“You jump to conclusions to quickly,”
“And so do you, if you’ll excuse me, I have homework to do.” Kara stood up quickly and walked out, accidentily picturing a vase sitting behind Mr.Blank to fall onto him and spill the flowers and water on to his lap. Sure enough, Kara heard him shout and swear as she walked up the stairs but didn’t go back down to check if he was ok. Instead, she stormed into her bedroom and took out her laptop from underneath her bed.

The words of ‘Faint’ sung in her ears as she turned her laptop on and found herself typing her password in without herself even realising. When she saw her display picture of her artwork appear, she smiled when she realised how long it took her to complete. The artwork itself was on her ceiling, now covered in a thin line of dust and clearly visible even in the lack of light in her bedroom.
As her laptop was loading, she looked to her ceiling and the two holding hands. The A1 picture had only taken her three hours to complete, yet it looked professionally done.
When her laptop had finished loading, she looked back to it and closed all the windows that had appeared.
“Time to go to my other sanctuary,” she muttered as she rolled here eyes.
The internet started up straight away, loading faster because she was closer to the internet modem then when she usually stayed downstairs and went online. When her homepage loaded, she logged into the site her friend created to post pictures of art work online. When she finished typing her password and hit enter, a message appeared to her and she realised that her friend was online.

       “From: Meteora
    To: Cookie

Hey, finally online I see? This is a first so early. Something wrong? You don’t usually come online till around 11 when your parents are asleep.
    Reply,
    Mito.”

       Kara smiled weakly and replied,

       “From: Cookie
    To: Meteora

I’m ok, I think. Someone pushed me over and pushed me in a cupboard all day, a new guy helped me out.
Don’t want me to be on? I can log off you know?
    Kara.

She received a reply almost straight away,

       “From: Meteora
    To: Cookie

Don’t you dare log off, I’ve been waiting for someone to talk to, but because people are at school it makes it hard. Please don’t log off. I’ll drive myself insane if you do. There’s no one to talk to over here, and it’s hard imagining people to draw when your so bored. I swear it’s a curse you know, when you want something to do you can’t actually think of anything.
    Mito.

       Kara replied quickly,

       “From: Cookie
    To: Meteora

Fine, I’ll stay on, but answer me this. Have you ever met someone that you swear you’ve met before?

She clicked ‘send’ then sighed as she waited for the message pop-up to appear again. A few minutes later it appeared and she refreshed the page, seeing his reply.

       “From: Meteora
    To: Cookie

Yup, that’s happened. Wait, you got shut in a cupboard? You’d better start talking.

  • what was said previously...

      “From: Meteora
    To: Cookie

Yup, that’s happened. Wait, you got shut in a cupboard? You’d better start talking.”

Kara sighed and replied, knowing what his response would be,

      “From: Cookie
    To: Meteora

Yeah, I’d say it was ‘the usual’ but this didn’t happen before. Lets just say my nose probably wont look the same.
This isn’t a good subject, can we change it?”

Sure enough, Kara wasn’t too upset when she read his reply, she knew he wouldn’t want to drop the subject now.

       “From: Meteora
    To: Cookie

Nose wont look the same? Now I want to really find out what happened. Tell me, please. You know I don’t like seeing cute girls hurt.”

Kara smiled and replied, she’d been talking to Mito long enough to know that he thought she was ‘cute’ but still blushed every time he said it.

      “From: Cookie
    To: Meteora

A girl just pushed me over, I landed on my nose and she dragged me into a cupboard. That’s basically it.

       Wait, I’m ‘cute’?
    Kara”

She laughed weakly and waited, sure enough, a few minutes later he replied.

      “From: Meteora
    To: Cookie

What? Stop trying to change the subject, you’ve officially got me worried about you. Is there anyway you can meet me today? I know it’s far, but if we meet half way it shouldn’t be so bad. Can you meet in Crawley?”

Kara was stunned for a few seconds, would she be able to meet him? She had to, he was the only one keeping the smile on her face during the day. The only one that for the past couple of months actually listened to her, the question was, could she trust him with her new found secret?
